Hodge Family Farm
I planted my first vegetable garden when I was 8 years old with the landlord of the house my parents were renting, that was 1996. Since that year my fascination grew with how a tiny seed could be planted, watered, and cared for could then go on and produce beautiful flowers or delicious food. When I first started gardening, I did not have the idea to grow and market produce, that desire would take a few more years of growing and learning. The desire to own a fruit and vegetable production farm started when I was in my teenage years. During the summer I de-tasseled corn for Pioneer. The contractor I worked for was Bruce Burch, who, after the de-tasseling season had offered me a job at his Apple orchard (Rush County, Indiana). I worked with Bruce for 2.5 years and loved working in the orchard, learning when to pick the best produce and enjoying the relationships the customers brought when they visited the orchard. The time spent learning is what inspired and drove me to want to have something like that of my own in the future. Fast forward through 8 Years of college. I had the opportunity to work as a partnership with my wife and my parents to purchase and start a fruit and vegetable farm. We purchased the property in 2018 and began production in 2019. Our goal is not only to grow and sell quality produce, we want to be a standout member of our community and a source of education about how food is grown and why it is grown the way it is. We want our customers to feel that same sensation we do when you eat produce picked in its prime.
What is your specialty?
Growing sweet corn, pumpkins, tomatoes and apples. In 2020 we are starting into the production of root crops and salad greens. Both of which we intend to grow with the same passion as we grow our other crops with.
